A classic HMS karabiner, ideal for belaying and abseiling. The wide gate opening allows for easy manipulation of knots and belay devices. The term HMS derives from the German word ‘Halbmastwurfsicherung’ which is the belaying technique we know as an Italian or Munter hitch. The pronounced ‘pear-shape’ of HMS karabiners allows for easy manipulation of the ropes in an Italian hitch.
