At just 123gms this is the lightest avalanche probe available anywhere. It’s easily assembled with a tug and cinch of the 2mm Dyneema cord that joins the sections, each of which are 40cms long for ease of packing. Being made of carbon fibre it is very strong yet retains a degree of flexibility that comes in handy when probing deep snow.
The debris from an avalanche begins to set like cement as soon as it stops moving making rescue increasingly difficult. Research suggests that there is a 90% chance of survival if a person is rescued within 15 minutes of being avalanched. After an hour the survival rate can be as low as only 25%. Go out prepared.
