As climbing styles change and rope technology improves there is an increasing use of half/ twin ropes down to 7.6mm and single ropes as low as 9.1mm. The use of these thinner ropes has meant that some belay devices do not provide enough friction to effectively arrest a leader fall. The new Lotus is cleverly designed to to be versatile enough to cope with a wide range of ropes. With the flared end away from the belayers’ body, rounded grooves in the mouth of the device provide enough friction for the climber to use ropes down to 7.6mm. Reverse the Lotus, with the flared end towards the belayers’ body, and ropes up to 11mm can be used. Similarly, abseiling can be safely undertaken by selecting the appropriate orientation of the Lotus according to the rope being used. Weight: 100gms.
